Financial Crime Leaders to Convene in Chicago for CAFC’s Agentic AI Conference

Agentic AI in Financial Crime Conference in Chicago

Industry leaders will gather on September 8 to examine how agentic AI can be deployed responsibly across AML, fraud, sanctions, and financial crime programs.

What's missing is a room full of the people actually building the governance structures, running the model risk reviews, and answering to examiners when these systems don't behave as expected.”
— John C. Calderon, Founder and Chair of CAFC

CHICAGO, IL, UNITED STATES, September 1, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Coalition Against Financial Crime (CAFC), a professional organization connecting financial institutions, compliance and risk professionals, law enforcement, and technology providers, will host the Agentic AI in Financial Crime Conference in Chicago on September 8, 2026, at BMO Tower, The Platform Conference Center.

AI is no longer an emerging technology sitting on the sidelines of compliance. It is already being applied across AML, fraud, sanctions, KYC, investigations, transaction monitoring, and operational decision-making. At the same time, criminal organizations are using AI to scale fraud, automate attacks, and develop increasingly sophisticated methods of evasion, while agentic AI is introducing a new level of autonomy, complexity, and governance risk into institutions' own programs. The question facing financial crime leaders is no longer whether to adopt AI, but how to deploy it responsibly, effectively, and defensibly.
The conference, part of CAFC's Certified AI Practitioner in Financial Crime (CAPFC) programming, is designed to move beyond high-level discussion of AI's future and toward practical guidance from practitioners currently implementing, governing, and overseeing these technologies. Through four panel discussions and a choice of three breakout workshops, the program will address:

Where AI is delivering measurable value today, and where the hype is outpacing reality
What effective AI governance and model risk management should look like as systems become more autonomous
How institutions can evaluate, select, and implement AI vendors without creating new compliance, operational, or regulatory risk
What it takes to build AI-enabled financial crime programs that are explainable, auditable, defensible, and capable of withstanding regulatory scrutiny

"There's no shortage of conferences talking about AI in the abstract. What's missing is a room full of the people actually building the governance structures, running the model risk reviews, and answering to examiners when these systems don't behave as expected. That's the conversation we're convening in Chicago: practitioners who are already living with agentic AI's risks, sharing what's actually working and what isn't,” said John C. Calderon, Founder and Chair of CAFC.

“AI is advancing faster than most compliance frameworks were built to handle. This conference matters because it gives practitioners a chance to shape the standards for using it responsibly before those standards are shaped for us,” said Paulina Peters, Deputy BSA Officer.

The conference is sponsored by Flagright at the Platinum level, and by SRA Consulting, AML RightSource, Footprint, and Solytics Partners at the Gold level.
The conversation will continue at the Agentic AI in Financial Crime Conference, New York, at St. John's University's Manhattan Campus on September 10, 2026.
