Tremont Sheldon Files Lawsuit in New Haven Superior Court Against Booker T. Washington Academy and a Former Teacher

BRIDGEPORT, CT, UNITED STATES, August 31, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Tremont Sheldon P.C. filed a lawsuit, Case No. NNH-CV26-5067783-S, Doe, John v. Booker T. Washington Academy, Inc. et al, Connecticut Superior Court, Judicial District of New Haven, on behalf of a man who alleges he was sexually abused, assaulted, and exploited by his teacher while he was a seventh-grade student at Booker T. Washington Academy, a charter elementary and middle school located in Hamden, CT.

The lawsuit was filed in New Haven Superior Court against Booker T. Washington Academy as well as Dominique Maynard, who worked at the school and was one of the plaintiff’s teachers.

According to the complaint, during the 2021-2022 school year, when the plaintiff was thirteen years old, Dominique Maynard began sending sexually explicit text messages to him and other students in a group chat and eventually sexually abused the plaintiff on multiple occasions at various locations within the school, including in her classroom. As detailed in the lawsuit, the abuse included fondling, kissing, oral sex, and sexual intercourse, and Dominique Maynard also showed the plaintiff pornography on school premises and provided him with money.

Moreover, the lawsuit alleges that the school was aware that Dominique Maynard was frequently pulling the plaintiff out of another teacher’s class and bringing him to her classroom. On several occasions, a teacher attempted to enter Dominique Maynard’s classroom but found the door locked and ultimately reported it to the school. The lawsuit alleges the school failed to take meaningful action, and Dominique Maynard continued to abuse the plaintiff.

Court records reflect that the Hamden Police Department charged Dominique Maynard in 2022 with risk of injury to a minor, and that Dominique Maynard entered a guilty plea and received a sentence of ten years, suspended after nine months, with five years of probation.

As a result of the alleged sexual abuse detailed in the complaint perpetrated by Dominique Maynard, the plaintiff has suffered physical injuries as well as severe emotional injuries, including emotional distress, post-traumatic stress disorder, and interference with his relationships.

“No child should ever have to endure sexual abuse, least of all in a place where parents expect their child to be protected. Our client has shown tremendous courage in coming forward,” said the attorney representing the plaintiff, Timothy M. Ramsey, of Tremont Sheldon.

The civil case is pending in Connecticut Superior Court, Judicial District of New Haven, under Case No. NNH-CV26-5067783-S.
